focused on college students because early drinking habits lead to safer practices in the future
conducted secondary research to explore current products that measure alcohol consumption
based on research, existing products primarily serve to measure alcohol consumption, but there was nothing that could affect and change human behavior to guide for safer drinking habits
IDENTIFYING THE PROBLEM
through surveys and interviews from CMU students, I found that students have a willingness to know their alcohol consumption, but they are not practicing safe practices or acquiring the basic knowledge of alcohol before drinking
DEVELOPING A PERONA
through developing a persona, my criteria was determined to create an effective product proposal
CRITERIA
act as a silent indicator to social group that one has reached his/ her limit
allows for easy counting of number & type of drinks one has consumed
consider aesthetics to the home; fitting for a host to provide to guests
PROTOTYPING
created extensive low fidelity prototypes to test various ideas
reenacted social settings to consider interactions when drinking in social setting
tested how my proposed product can cause a shift in behavior to drink in moderation
explored ways to explicitly and implicitly implementing standard drink proportions in glassware
learned to see coasters as not just accessories but tools that users can use as a new drinking system
BRAND RESEARCH
inspired by Rabbit’s “Entertaining Elevated” product line where its geometric design and modern aesthetics attract avid home drinkers to purchase home barware products
personally was attracted to the aesthetic and material considerations of these products & hoped my coaster set could be a lower-entry product designed specifically for college students
